Domtar's Ashdown Mill is located on 2,553 acres in southwest Arkansas and is a unit of the Company's US Pulp and Paper Manufacturing Group. Domtar's corporate headquarters is in Montreal, Canada and the US Operations Headquarters is in Fort Mill, South Carolina. The mill is one of the largest communication papers complexes in North America, employs approximately 1,150 people, and accounts for a significant share of the Company's investment in the US.
Company officials and members of the community broke the ground for the mill in 1966. Fine paper production began in 1968 with one paper machine and 450 employees. Georgia Pacific acquired the Ashdown facility in 1990 wit the purchase of Great Northern Nekoosa Corporation. In August 2001, Domtar, Inc. purchased the Ashdown Mill, along with facilities in Port Edwards, and Nekoosa, Wisconsin and Woodland, Maine from Georgia pacific. Today, the mill's four paper machine produce over 2500 tons of Business communication paper per day (925,000 tons/yr), about two-thirds of which is converted into sheets in one of the world's largest converting operations. The mill also manufactures 192,500 tons per year of market pulp.
