MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF THE COUNCIL
OF ASHDOWN, ARKANSAS
MARCH 12, 2012
The City Council of Ashdown, Arkansas met in regular session March 12, 2012 in the Council Chambers at City Hall. The following were present: Mayor Carroll McLarty, City Clerk Kirk Mounts, Council Members Michael Pennington, Brandon Thrash, Tina Chandler, Glen Ray Bowman, Darren Adkison and Shirley Jackson.
CALL TO ORDER:
The meeting was called to order by Mayor Carroll McLarty followed by prayer from Brother Jim Cross, Pastor of the First United Methodist Church. This was followed by the reciting of the Pledge of Allegiance.
ROLL CALL / APPROVAL OF MINUTES:
Following the roll call, Council Member Adkison approved the minutes of the February meeting as amended. Motion was seconded by Council Member Thrash. Motion carried.
PRESENTATION OF FINANCIALS:
City Clerk Kirk Mounts gave a description of this month’s financials.
Dale Ford spoke to the Council concerning the lift station located on his property.
Jason Curtis: A motion was made by Council Member Thrash, seconded by Council Member Jackson to move this to after Individual Reports. Motion carried.
Joe Sumrell: This issue was also moved per above motion.
The City of Wilton, with advice from the Municipal League, approached the Mayor about possibly allowing their employee to join the City’s Municipal Health Group. This would be at no cost to the City of Ashdown. The Council recommended this be tabled until the April meeting so they could research any liabilities themselves.
CITY CLERK: A motion was made by Council Member Adkison, seconded by Council Member Pennington to re-finance the 2005 Sales and Use Tax Bond as long as there is
no cost to the City. Motion passed.
POLICE: Due to added costs the Police/Fire Building parking lot was tabled until a later date.
SANITATION: DeWayne informed the Council that we will be unable to spray for mosquitoes due to the City not meeting the requirements set by the Federal Government. These guidelines took effect March 1, 2012. The City is currently applying for all licenses and will look into obtaining bids for a new sprayer.
NO ACTION TAKEN
Motion was made by Council Member Pennington, seconded by Council Member Thrash to adjourn the meeting. Motion carried.
Meeting adjourned at 8:45 p.m.
